The National Weather Service in Wakefield has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  South Central Isle of Wight County in southeastern Virginia...
  The City of Chesapeake in southeastern Virginia...
  The City of Norfolk in southeastern Virginia...
  The City of Portsmouth in southeastern Virginia...
  The Central City of Suffolk in southeastern Virginia...
  The City of Virginia Beach in southeastern Virginia...

* Until 300 AM EDT.

* At 1250 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
  thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between
  2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen since early Thursday evening.
  Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the
  warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

  SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.

  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
           other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Virginia Beach, Windsor, Deep Creek, Downtown Portsmouth, Great
  Bridge, Downtown Norfolk, Norfolk State University, Regent
  University, Old Dominion University, Churchland, Virginia Wesleyan
  University, Kempsville, Ocean View, Downtown Suffolk, Norfolk,
  Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Cradock and Ghent.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. Do not stay in areas subject to flooding when
water begins rising.
