Subject: Suspension of River Forecast Service For:

Alsek River at Dry Bay near Yakutat Alaska and other
forecast points in Canada

On Sunday May 25, 2025, NOAA`s National Weather Service /NWS/ Office
in Juneau, AK will suspend River Forecast Service for multiple
locations in its service area:

The Alsek River at Dry Bay near Yakutat along with all other
upstream locations in Canada.

The suspension of service in the Alsek basin is due to two reasons,
one being limited precipitation information to improve the
calibration of the hydrologic model. The second is that there have
been substantial changes in the river basin area from glacier
changes upstream in Canada. This is affecting the total amount of
water flowing through the Alsek River system, which in turn is
affecting the calibration of the hydrological model output.

On May 25th 2025, NWS Juneau will issue the last river forecast for
the following NWS Location Identifier /NWSLI/ ALEA2 and the
following Canadian locations ALSQ2, DEZQ9, TATQ9.
