.DISCUSSION...

Wind and waves:

Early Thursday morning a low in the central gulf will be
continuing to send frontal bands into the panhandle, with
easterly moderate breezes (11 to 16 knots) through Icy
Strait, and southeasterly moderate breezes (11 to 16 knots)
for the Sitakaday Narrows, just west of Young Island, though
during the early morning hours there is a chance that sustained winds
could occasionally reach as high as fresh breezes (17 to 21 knots),
with gusts reaching strong breeze (22 to 27 kt)as an occluding
front moves across the panhandle.

As the front departs, these winds will rapidly diminish
through the late morning in the Sitakaday
narrows, and by 1300 winds will be hovering around light breeze
(4 to 6 kt), taking on variable directions, although Icy Strait
will continue to maintain easterly moderate breezes
(11 to 16 knots). As the evening arrives, winds strengthen again
as another frontal band moves in, and by 1900 winds in the
Sitakaday narrows will be back out of the southeast and strengthening
to moderate breeze (11 to 16 kt), potentially reaching on occasion
as strong as fresh breezes (17 to 21 kt). Winds will remain
elevated through Friday morning before diminishing Friday
afternoon in the Sitakaday narrows.

Waveheights through much of Thursday morning will remain around
3 ft. By 1300, waveheights in the Sitakaday narrows will have
subsided to 2 ft or less. Waveheights will again increase in the
same area to 3 ft, potentially 4 ft at times, through Thursday
evening, and remain at a similar height through Friday morning.

Precip/Rain:

Rain showers will continue through Thursday and last into
Friday. Current forecast confidence reflects about 0.05
to 0.15 inches every 3 hours into Friday.

Aviation:

Conditions through Thursday will fluctuate between VFR and MVFR
as stronger showers result in ceilings at times racing below 3000 ft.
Some wind shear is possible Thursday morning, though this will
subside by Thursday afternoon in the wake of the front, before
before returning late Thursday night.
