A very cold upper level Arctic low dropping south over the Western Interior will bring an anomalously cold airmass to the area through the weekend. There will be clouds, periods of precipitation and even periods of snow above 2000 feet, but low- lying areas that clear during the overnight and early morning hours will see temperatures drop quickly into the low to mid 30s. Cloud cover increases across the Interior Saturday afternoon which will significantly limit early Sunday morning cooling keeping low temperatures in the upper 30s and 40s, but isolated areas that clear may still develop frost. Frost becomes more likely Monday morning as cloud cover dissipates. Frost is unlikely for all but the lowest lying valleys and along rivers. $$ AKZ811-812-831-832-834-847>850-081900- South Slopes Of The Eastern Brooks Range- South Slopes Of The Central Brooks Range-Upper Koyukuk Valley- Dalton Highway Summits- White Mountains and High Terrain South of the Yukon River- Northern Denali Borough-Southern Denali Borough- Eastern Alaska Range North of Trims Camp- Eastern Alaska Range South of Trims Camp- Including Arctic Village, Wiseman, Coldfoot, Chandalar DOT Camp, Iniakuk Lake, the Dalton Highway from MP 165 to MP 232, Allakaket, Bettles, Evansville, Alatna, Gobblers Knob, Prospect Creek, Finger Mountain, The Yukon River Bridge, The Dalton Highway from MP 39 to MP 164, Livengood, Circle Hot Springs, Eagle Summit, Twelvemile Summit, The Steese Highway from MP 85 to MP 124, The Elliott Highway from MP 32 to MP 134, The Dalton Highway from MP 0 to MP 38, Healy, Denali National Park, Kantishna, Anderson, The Parks Highway from MP 237 to MP 288, Cantwell, Carlo Creek, The Parks Highway from MP 202 MP 237, Black Rapids, Donnelly Dome, The Richardson Highway from MP 224 to MP 259, Trims Camp, and The Richardson Highway from MP 202 to MP 224 834 AM AKDT Sat Jun 7 2025 ...Wintry Weather Across High Terrain Through The Weekend... A very cold upper level Arctic low will be dropping south through the weekend. This will bring a much colder airmass to the area with snow levels slowly dropping to around 2500 feet across the Interior by Sunday night. Abundant moisture from a low in the Gulf of Alaska will bring rain and snow showers to the area. Accumulating snow is likely near Coldfoot, along the Richardson Highway through the Alaska Range, and across summits of the Dalton Highway, Ray Mountains, and White Mountains. Other areas above 1500 feet will see a mix of rain and snow, including along the Parks Highway near Denali National Park. Highs will struggle to break 45 degrees even in valleys from Friday through Sunday, so areas that don`t see snow will see cold rain. Winds will also be breezy with gusts to around 25 mph. Travelers should expect difficult travel conditions at times along portions of the Dalton Highway, over Eagle Summit along the Steese Highway, and along the Richardson Highway through the Alaska Range. Outdoor recreationists should be prepared for very chilly and wet conditions. $$
