.DISCUSSION...
High pressure continues to weaken ahead of an Arctic front moving
south tonight into Monday. With weakening pressure temperatures
cool slightly Sunday and moreso Monday as the front passes.
Southwest winds ahead of the front will shift northeast behind the
front. These will be strongest along elevated terrain in the
Northern Interior where gusts up to 25 mph are possible Sunday
afternoon and immediately behind the front Monday. The front will
bring scattered showers to most valleys Monday and Tuesday with
numerous showers expected at elevation.
Isolated thunderstorms expected Sunday morning from Tanana west
expand in the afternoon to stretch from Nenana Ridge west with
widely scattered thunderstorms possible from Manley Hot Springs
West. Some isolated storms are possible along the Alcan as well.
Monday will see thunderstorms move further east with thunderstorms
possible along much of the Interior north of the Alaska Range.
Chances are highest as the front moves over each area from the
north with the greatest potential in the hills around Fairbanks
west to Tanana.
Pressure begins to build back slightly Wednesday, but this will
be short lived with a low in the Bering Sea moving southeast
towards the Gulf of Alaska Thursday into Friday which will help
keep a large area of weak low pressure across much of northern
Alaska. This will allow waves of additional showers late this
week.
