.DISCUSSION...
Key Messages...
- While a slight chance of thunderstorms impacts the Tanana Valley
on Sunday afternoon, widespread wetting rains will quickly ramp up
through Monday afternoon. The heaviest rainfall of a 0.25 to 0.75
inches is forecast across the Central Interior from Fairbanks to
Wiseman, with up to one inch possible along the Steese and Dalton
Highway summits. Lighter showers are expected elsewhere, though high
spacial uncertainty remains as a westward shift in the trough axis
could pull higher amounts up to 0.75 inches into the Western
Interior between Bettles and Lake Minchumina.
- Strong southwesterly winds will increase Sunday afternoon and
persist through Monday afternoon. Peak gusts up to 45 mph are
expected at elevations above 1500 feet in the Central Interior,
while the Middle and Lower Tanana Valley can expect gusts up to 35
mph.
- Cool conditions with highs in the 50s and low 60s will dominate
through Monday. A rapid warming and drying trend arrives Tuesday
into Wednesday as a ridge builds over the state, pushing high
temperatures into the mid to upper 70s and dropping minimum RH
values into the 20 percent range across the Interior valleys, with
the lowest values focused on the Eastern Interior.
