.DISCUSSION...
Warm and dry conditions continue under high pressure today for
much of the Interior. The exception will be the southeast Interior
in the Upper Tanana Valley and the Fortymile Country south of
Eagle where heavy rain showers continue. Highs in the 70s expected
for most valleys except to the southeast where the mid to upper
60s are expected. Minimum RHs in the 30s areas from the Middle
Tanana Valley West, in the 40s for the Upper Tanana Valley and
Fortymile Country, and in the low 30s to upper 20s for the Yukon
Flats. Some stronger southerly winds are expected through the
Alaska Range passes today with gusts up to 40 mph possible east of
Fairbanks and gusts up to 35 mph west of Fairbanks.
Temperatures and RHs moderate slightly Sunday as pressure begins
to fall ahead of an Arctic Low that moves south and brings
scattered showers to much of the area Monday and Tuesday. These
showers will be accompanied by a slight cooling trend early next
week.
A low in the Gulf of Alaska will continue to spin bits of
shortwave energy into the Interior providing support for isolated
thunderstorms along higher terrain through the weekend. Monday
will see the best chances as a front from the Arctic Low passes
through the Interior with widely scattered thunderstorms expected
in the Central Interior and elevated terrain near Fairbanks.
