.DISCUSSION...
Critical fire weather continues through the early morning hours
at elevation. Breezy overnight winds kept inversions weak and very
near valley floors Thursday morning causing very poor overnight
RH recovery for most locations. Easterly winds at elevation remain
moderately strong Thursday with gusts up to 25 mph. Winds in the
valleys will be weaker with 10 to 15 mph sustained values expected
and gusts of 15 to 25 mph possible. Those on fires with more
complex terrain will want to be wary of channels/gaps/valleys
exposed to the east or northeast and along ridgetops where the
strongest gusts up to 25 mph are most likely. Winds weaken
throughout the day from the southeast to the northwest and become
less organized and light overnight Thursday into Friday.
Temperatures remain hot with highs in the mid to upper 80s and
reaching near 90 for some valley locations less obscured by smoke.
Minimum RHs in the low 20s to upper teens expected. Overnight RH
recovery will improve somewhat Thursday night into Friday due to
limited winds, but dry air will still keep recoveries weak.
Thunderstorms and showers are not expected across the Interior
through Friday with some potential returning to the Alaska Range
and Upper Tanana Valley Saturday. Sunday sees the start of a
pattern change bringing showery conditions back and significant
cooling to the area with highs dropping 10 to 20 degrees Sunday
through Tuesday and remaining lower through much of next week.
