.DISCUSSION...
High pressure will continue to dominate our weather today.
Hot...dry and smoky conditions will occur. Winds will remain light
and mostly terrain driven today. Low level instability continues to
increase. More isolated showers and thunderstorms will develop today
across the higher terrain of the southwest and central Interior and
the southern Brooks Range. Widely scattered storms will be possible
along the western Alaska Range. Convective smoke columns are
possible on active fires this afternoon. Monday into Wednesday there
will be a weather pattern change. The western Interior will get a
moist southwest flow that will temporarily push high pressure east
over the Canadian Yukon. This will allow for increased showers and
wet thunderstorm chances across the central and eastern Interior
Monday and Tuesday. Even though rains will not be as widespread as
this past week...the southwest flow should help improve the smoky
conditions in the central Interior. High pressure is expected to
redevelop late Wednesday into the weekend for another hot and dry
spell.
