ANALYSIS CONFIDENCE...Moderate to high

SYNOPSIS...A low over the southeast Bering Sea will continue to move
off to the east as the next stronger low weakens as it moves east
across the southern Bering Sea Wednesday through Saturday. High
pressure over the Chukchi Sea will drift off to the northwest
through the forecast period.

FORECAST FOR THE BEAUFORT SEA (DAYS 1 through 5)...Forecast
confidence is high. North to northeast winds will persist through
Saturday across the Beaufort Sea. Expect sea ice to slowly drift
west-southwestward overall, though sea ice near the Alaska coastline
will likely move very little overall through the forecast period.

FORECAST FOR THE CHUKCHI SEA (DAYS 1 through 5)...Forecast
confidence is high. Northeast winds will persist through the
forecast period. The polynya off the northwest coast of Alaska will
persist and continue to fill in with new ice. Otherwise sea ice is
expected to remain fairly stationary through Saturday.

The main ice edge extends from near Goodnews Bay to 59 29N 163 59W
to 57 11N 166 46W to 58 5N 172 35W to 61 27N to 178 55W and
continues in Russian waters. The ice edge is open water.

From land-based points in Alaska, the main ice edge extends from
near Goodnews Bay to 25 nm south of Kipnuk to 95 nm northwest of
Saint Paul to 245 nm southwest of Gambell and continues into Russian
waters. The ice edge is open water.

FORECAST FOR THE BERING SEA (DAYS 1 through 5)...Forecast confidence
is moderate. Winds near the ice edge will shift from northwesterly
to southeasterly as the next low moves east across the southern
Bering Sea. Northeast winds will spread east across the Bering Sea
behind the low on Friday and Saturday. Sea ice will be quite mobile
during this forecast period with the changing wind directions, but
overall ice pack movement by Saturday will be to the northwest 30 to
40 nm.
