...GUSTY WINDS AND RAIN FOR ANCHORAGE THROUGH SUNDAY...

A strong low moving into western Alaska will bring rain and gusty
winds to the Anchorage area through Sunday. There is high
confidence that southeasterly winds will increase along Turnagain
Arm and the Anchorage Hillside this evening. Winds will be the
strongest along the southern Hillside, with gusts of 45 to 60 mph
expected.

For south and west Anchorage, there is less confidence in both
the development and magnitude of gusty winds, as the southeasterly
Turnagain Arm winds compete with a developing north to south
pressure gradient due to a low spinning up over the northern Gulf.
If the southeasterly Turnagain Arm winds do move across south and
west Anchorage, the strongest winds and gusts are likely between
9 pm and midnight with gusts up to 40 mph possible.

These winds will become more southerly Sunday morning with gusts
to 35 mph likely throughout the day.

Rain this afternoon will become steadier this evening and continue
through Sunday morning. The rain is then expected to taper off
around noon, with only a few scattered showers remaining.
