Rangeland Fire Danger Statement

.DISCUSSION...

An active weather pattern will continue to persist, with a few
rounds of showers and thunderstorms can be expected through tonight.
Storms will be strong to severe moving through central and
northeastern SD into the morning. These storms could be capable of
producing damaging winds and large hail along with locally heavy
rainfall. Another round of storms, that could be strong to severe,
could redevelop during the afternoon and early evening mainly across
eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota.

Winds will mainly be from the east through the day, with a shift in
the winds to be more northerly over north central South Dakota.
These wind will generally be between 10-20 mph though the day with
the potential for gust up to 25 mph. Minimum relative humidity
values will mainly stay over 60 percent today, except for portions
of south central South Dakota, which will have values around 45 to
50 percent.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low.  Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.


The outlook for Monday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low category.
