Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Aberdeen SD
501 AM CDT Sun Jun 22 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Another hot and humid day is on the way for most locations across
central and northeast South Dakota and west central Minnesota today.
The one exception will be parts of north central South Dakota where
clouds and rain chances will keep a lid on warming. Afternoon
minimum relative humidity values will range between 35 to 65
percent, with the drier conditions setting up across parts of the
James Valley and other sections of northeast South Dakota.

A frontal boundary moving through the area this afternoon will lead
to variable wind direction depending on location. East to southeast
winds persist across eastern zones most of the day, ahead of the
front...while farther west, winds will switch to the west to
northwest by midday. Eventually winds become west to northwest in
the east later in the day and tonight. Scattered showers and
thunderstorms will become more prevalent late this afternoon and
early this evening and persist into the overnight hours, especially
across northeast South Dakota and west central Minnesota. Monday
will feature drier conditions with northwest winds and afternoon
minimum relative humidity values between 30 to 40 percent.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Monday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low category.
