Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Aberdeen SD
307 PM CST Sat Feb 22 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Well above normal temperatures will continue through at least the
next week, along with mainly dry weather. These warming temperatures
will quickly melt remaining snow across the region. Grasses across
areas that have been snow free for several days will continue to dry
out. There are elevated fire weather concerns Monday over central
South Dakota, especially over and southwest of Faulk and Spink
Counties. Winds over central South Dakota will increase out of the
west 15 to 30 mph with gusts of 35 to near 45 mph. Relative humidity
values Monday will be in the 30 percent range over central South
Dakota. Relative humidity will stay closer to 60 percent east of the
James River Valley Monday afternoon.

...HIGH FIRE DANGER...

Unfavorable weather conditions and low moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that there
is high potential for a fire to spread. Outdoor burning should be
restricted to early morning or evening hours when wind speeds are
usually lower and the relative humidity is higher.

The outlook for Sunday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the high category.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Sunday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low to moderate category.
