Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Aberdeen SD
307 AM CDT Mon Jul 21 2025

.DISCUSSION...

An area of low pressure over southwestern SD through Tuesday will
help bring more chances of showers and storms to the region. These
showers and storms will be mainly during the evening and overnight
hours. However, confidence is low on timing and specific location of
storms over the next couple of days. Any storms that develop do have
the potential to be severe and produce hail to 1 inch in diameter
and winds to 60 mph.

Highs today will rise into the 80s to mid 90s during the day. Moist
air and higher temperatures will combine to create heat index values
topping out in the 100 to 105 degree range both this afternoon and
Tuesday afternoon over portions of south central South Dakota. Relative
humidity values will be 50 percent or greater across much of the
area, while in the 40 percent range over south central South Dakota.
Winds will be out of the east to southeast with gusts 15 to 25 mph.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Tuesday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low category.
