.DISCUSSION...

Storms will be developing this afternoon into the evening over
central and northeastern South Dakota and west central Minnesota as
a cold front moves through. The storms could have large hail up to 2
inches in diameter, severe wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph, cloud to
ground lightning, and the potential for a tornado or two to develop.

Winds in front of the front will be from the south, with gusts up to
25-35 mph, mainly over northeastern South Dakota and west central
Minnesota. Once the front passes through during the afternoon into
the evening, winds will turn to be from the northwest and then
decrease through the night to become light and variable.

Chances for storms return again on Thursday afternoon and evening,
with the same severe weather hazards. Low Grassland Fire Danger is
also expected Thursday. Both this afternoon and Thursday afternoon,
afternoon humidity is not expected to drop below 40 percent.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Thursday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low category.
