National Weather Service Aberdeen SD
158 AM CDT Fri Oct 18 2024

.DISCUSSION...

Northerly winds will increase today behind a cold front. Additional
clouds, cooler air, and a 20 to 30 percent chance of very light
showers, will keep relative humidity values at or above 35 percent
this afternoon.

Moderate to high grassland fire danger index values are forecast for
Friday. Total rainfall through daybreak Saturday will be less than a
tenth of an inch over most of the area though the James Valley to
the Sisseton hills does have a 10 to 20 percent chance of seeing
between a tenth and a quarter of an inch.

...HIGH FIRE DANGER...

Unfavorable weather conditions and low moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that there
is high potential for a fire to spread. Outdoor burning should be
restricted to early morning or evening hours when wind speeds are
usually lower and the relative humidity is higher.

The outlook for Saturday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low to moderate category.
