Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Aberdeen SD
214 AM CDT Fri Jul 17 2026

.DISCUSSION...

A weak front will make its way across the area today. Not much
change in the airmass behind the front, with highs still in the 90s
to near 100 degrees. The main issue is the wind shift to a more
northerly direction. Winds behind the front will top out around 25
mph. Afternoon relative humidity values are forecast to fall into
the 25 to 30% range around and west of the Missouri River with values
of 35 to 50% east of the Missouri River.

Saturday is expected to be cooler before heat returns Sunday and
Monday.

...MODERATE FIRE DANGER...

Marginal weather conditions or lowering moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that there is
some potential for a fire to spread. Any outdoor burning should be
closely monitored.

The outlook for Saturday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the moderate category.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Saturday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low category.
