Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Aberdeen SD
204 PM CST Mon Mar 2 2026

.DISCUSSION...

Snow cover remains over much of northeastern and west central
Minnesota. Across portions of central to south central South Dakota,
mainly dry conditons continue and the ground remains snow free.

Off and on light rain over the southern half of South Dakota will
come to an end this evening. High pressure sliding south from Canada
will bring light winds and drier weather for Tuesday. Highs will be
in the 40s to low 50s Tuesday afternoon, with relative humidity
falling to 30 to 45 percent, lowest west of the Missouri River.

Above normal high temperatures will continue through the week.
Wednesday and Thursday will be the warmest, around 20 degrees above
normal, with highs in the mid 50s to mid 60s. Relative humidity
values will bottom out 20 to 35 percent over much of central South
Dakota.

...HIGH FIRE DANGER...

Unfavorable weather conditions and low moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that there
is high potential for a fire to spread. Outdoor burning should be
restricted to early morning or evening hours when wind speeds are
usually lower and the relative humidity is higher.

The outlook for Tuesday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the moderate category.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Tuesday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low category.
