.DISCUSSION...

Today will be cooler, with highs in the mid 30s to upper 40s as high

into the 25 to 35 percent range. Higher relative humidity values
closer to 40 percent will remain east of the James River.

Tuesday will be a transition day as the much warmer air moves in for
the rest of the work week. A trough of low pressure will move over
western South Dakota in the afternoon. Expect winds Tuesday to be
out of the south to southeast gusting 20 to 25 mph, and decreasing
over central South Dakota from mid afternoon on. Relative humidity
values will be similar to today.

...MODERATE FIRE DANGER...

Marginal weather conditions or lowering moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that there is
some potential for a fire to spread. Any outdoor burning should be
closely monitored.

The outlook for Tuesday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the moderate to high category.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Tuesday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low to high category.
