.DISCUSSION...

Relative humidity this afternoon will remain in the 30 to 40 percent
range west of the Missouri River, while staying mainly above 50
percent east of the Missouri River.

An area of low pressure crossing south central Canada will drag a
cold front across central South Dakota during the late afternoon and
evening hours, and over far northeastern South Dakota into western
Minnesota overnight into early Tuesday morning. Winds will turn out
of a west to northwesterly direction behind the front. While most
locations will remain dry, there is a 30 to 60 percent chance of
showers or thunderstorms with the passage of the cold front. A few
stronger storms mainly south will be capable of producing 2 inch
diameter hail or wind gusts of 60 to 75 mph. The highest threat area
for these stronger storms are over south central South Dakota south
of Pierre, and north of a line from Aberdeen to Sisseton.

Dry high pressure will then build in from the northwest through the
day Thursday. Relative humidity values will fall into the 25 to 40
percent range Tuesday, lowest over central South Dakota. Winds out of
the northwest will increase, and gust 25 to 35 mph.

...MODERATE FIRE DANGER...

Marginal weather conditions or lowering moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that there is
some potential for a fire to spread.  Any outdoor burning should be
closely monitored.


The outlook for Tuesday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the high category.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low.  Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.


The outlook for Tuesday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low to high category.
