National Weather Service Aberdeen SD
337 AM CDT Tue Jul 29 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Low pressure over southern South Dakota today will exit over
southeastern South Dakota this afternoon and evening. Relative
humidity values will be over 50 percent, with winds out of the east
to northeast gusting 20 to 25 mph this afternoon. There is a
marginal risk, level 1 out of 5, of severe weather this afternoon
into this evening over south central South Dakota. Winds up to around
60 mph will be the main concern with the strongest storms. Hail up
to the size of dimes to quarters will also be possible.

Cooler high pressure over south central Canada will push a ridge over
much of our area through Wednesday, before exiting over Minnesota
and Wisconsin on Friday. Mainly dry weather is expected through
Friday over eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota. Highs through
Saturday will be in the 70s to low 80s, which is 5 to 10 degrees
below normal for this time of year.

...MODERATE FIRE DANGER...

Marginal weather conditions or lowering moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that there is
some potential for a fire to spread. Any outdoor burning should be
closely monitored.

The outlook for Wednesday afternoon...The grassland fire danger
index will reach the moderate category.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Wednesday afternoon...The grassland fire danger
index will reach the low category.
