A low-level jet moves into the area today, bringing strong southerly surface wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph, strongest in central SD. This will spread east Sunday into northeastern SD and west central MN, but strongest winds (isolated gusts of 45 mph possible) will be mainly over north central SD. A cold front will move across the area Sunday bringing winds in central SD around to the west. Minimum RH values are not expected to drop below warning criteria, lowest will be around 35% in northeastern SD today. However, if a fire does start, it will likely spread quickly and be hard to contain due to the strong winds.
