.DISCUSSION...
Above normal temperatures once again today will support afternoon
humidity down below 40 percent west of the James River Valley today,
and as low as 20 to 30 percent over parts of north central South
Dakota. Along and east of the James River humidity will bottom out
between 40 and 55 percent. When coupled with southerly wind gusts of
20 to 30 miles per hour during the afternoon, central and north
central South Dakota will have Moderate to High Grassland Fire
Danger this afternoon. Storms are also expected to move over parts
of central South Dakota this evening into the early overnight period
tonight. In addition to cloud to ground lightning, storms may
produce wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour.
On Thursday, showers and storms will continue through the day, with
severe storms once again possible in the afternoon to evening
producing cloud to ground lightning and wind gusts of 60 miles per
hour. The storms will keep humidity high throughout the day, which
in turn keeps the Grassland Fire Danger at Low to Moderate. Wind
will also turn to the north during the afternoon to evening time
period, once again topping out around 20 to 30 miles per hour.
