.DISCUSSION...
Low to Moderate Grassland Fire Danger is in place today.
Afternoon humidity will vary widely today, ranging from 25-40% west
of the Missouri River to 60-80% along and east of the James River.
Winds come out of the north this afternoon, and widespread gusts of
20 to 30 miles per hour will be possible.
Winds will veer to become southerly through the day Saturday, with
this turning occurring over central and north central South Dakota
in the morning, progressing eastward through the afternoon and
evening time frame. Gusts will once again reach 20 to 30 miles per
hour, though these strongest gusts are mainly expected over central
and north central South Dakota. Afternoon humidity will reach below
30 percent in some places west of the Missouri River Saturday due to
the return of above normal temperatures in the 90s. The wind and
humidity combination will lead to the potential for localized
elevated fire weather conditions Saturday afternoon. Sunday`s
conditions will be fairly similar to Saturday`s, with the exception
of more widespread wind gusts reaching 30 to 40 miles per hour
(still coming out of the south). Therefore, more widespread elevated
fire weather concerns will be possible Sunday, and High to Very High
Grassland Fire Danger will be possible over nearly all of central
and north central South Dakota.
