.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1233 PM CDT Fri Apr 24 2026

Upper troughing will dominate through the middle of next week. Light
snow in the Black Hills will spread east this evening in a waa band.
Temperatures along and south of Hwy 212 should support all rain as
the precip moves into central SD. Looking at a tenth to half an inch
of rain with this system, heaviest farther south along I-90. Lighter
amounts are possible all the north to the ND border, but only 20 to
30 percent chance of any rain reaching that far north at all.

More widespread, steady moderate rain is expected with the next
system Sunday and Monday especially east of the James Valley where
moisture will be enhanced on a warm nose. Can`t rule out an embedded
thunderstorm or two with increasing instability near that warm nose,
either. Over an inch of rain is expected east of a line from Eureka
to Murdo with up to 2 inches possible east of a line from Britton to
Miller. All of the rain will help green up and reduce fire concerns
and dust.

Temperatures are expected to remain 10 to 15 degrees below normal
into the middle of next week under the persistent upper troughing.
Highs will top out in the 50s through Thursday.
