Westerly winds trend weaker today across western and central areas, while a backdoor cold front generates gusty north to east winds in eastern New Mexico. Moisture will increase in the wake of this frontal passage, pushing westward to the Continental Divide by Friday morning. Scattered showers and storms will favor areas along and east of the central mountain chain Friday and Saturday afternoons, with higher coverage all the way to the Arizona border on Sunday. Drier air from the west will decrease storm chances early next week in western and central New Mexico, with eastern areas eventually drying out by the middle of the week. Hot, breezy, and dry conditions are favored mid to late next week, with elevated to locally critical fire weather conditions areawide. ................................................................
