At 530 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms 9 miles southwest of Rio Grande, moving east at 30 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Athens, Point Pleasant, Gallipolis, Pomeroy, Rio Grande, Albany, Racine, Coolville, Rutland, Forked Run State Park, Ravenswood, New Haven, Mason, Tuppers Plains, Waterloo, Middleport, Chester, Syracuse, Hartford City, and Henderson. This includes Interstate 77 in West Virginia between mile markers 145 and 146. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.
