...RECORD HIGH RAINFALL SET AT WATERLOO FOR WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 30...

A DAILY RECORD HIGH RAINFALL OF 1.58 INCHES WAS SET AT WATERLOO, IOWA
FOR WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 30. THIS BREAKS THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF
1.21 INCHES WHICH OCCURRED IN 1974.

WEATHER RECORDS FOR THE WATERLOO AREA HAVE BEEN TAKEN FROM TWO
GENERAL LOCATIONS. THE FIRST AREA WAS IN THE VICINITY OF DOWNTOWN
WATERLOO WITH INITIAL RECORDS BEGINNING ON JANUARY 21, 1895 AT A
BUILDING ON THE 600 BLOCK OF MULBERRY STREET. IN APRIL 1911, THE
OBSERVATION LOCATION MOVED TO THE 300 BLOCK OF HIGH STREET WITH THE
FINAL MOVE TO THE 700 BLOCK OF FAIRVIEW AVENUE IN JUNE OF 1914 WHERE
OBSERVATIONS CONTINUED UNTIL FEBRUARY 28, 1950. OFFICIAL OBSERVATIONS
THEN MOVED TO THE WATERLOO AIRPORT ON MARCH 1, 1950 AND REMAINED
THERE UNTIL PRESENT.

TEMPERATURE, PRECIPITATION AND SNOWFALL RECORDS ALL BEGAN ON JANUARY
21, 1895.
